A near normal service will be resumed........

Well, I can't say when I'll get this page looking back to something near normal.  This is a temporary look.  You know how a great idea pops into your head when you're really really busy and cannot be distracted from the task in hand, and the task after that and the one after that?  And then you make time for a tea break and decide that the great idea will only take the time it takes for the tea to cool to a drinkable temperature, so you really have got time after all.  Yep...the new blog background was that ten minute job.  It only took five minutes to cruise a coupla websites, choose one and do all the save and delete stuff.  Before I discovered that no matter what I did (in my stumbling, learning, technically deficient way) that I couldn't actually make my computer do what was required.  And guess what difficult a task that was..yep - copy and paste some html code.  No matter what I did, the 'copy' option simply would not appear under the mouse clicker.  So whilst I work out my next move, me and the blog are in our dressing gowns, pondering.  But it's all good - it still works!
there's a subliminal hidden message here...

It's already been a week since I tested the patience of those I love too.  I was running my week with a day in hand apparently, when I suggested to Jan that she and her super important G should stop with us for some supper rather than a quick drink.  She readily agreed and the plan was set.  This was all conducted by text messages, on Thursday.  And my invitation said 'tomorrow'.  Secure in the knowledge that it was already Friday.  So you can imagine my surprise when I watched them pull up outside my kitchen window at about 7pm last Friday evening!  I was midst chopping up veggies to throw in a cheap and very unstylish stir fry for me and Mr Dunnit. Mr Dunnit, oblivious to all this, was in the shower, enjoying some down time.  Supper would not stretch to four.  The dining table was covered in paperwork.  The lounge looked like a jumble sale.  And it was the wrong day.  Do I try to cover my confusion and act the gracious hostess?  No.  Can't possibly do that.  I realised my mistake in the time it took them to park.  And as is my way - of tact discretion and understanding, I met them outside and confessed immediately.  Oh laugh! They are such good friends.  They laughed with me and at me and then took us out for a lovely supper.  It can be no coincidence can it, that LLJ was brandishing this 'gift' as she got out of her car that evening.

You prolly have to be British and of a certain age I'm afraid.. this catch phrase is still in daily use in these parts.  If you want to know more, perhaps you should put the name 'Dick Emery' into your search engine.  Probably, only relevant to the time. But this phrase, well, it lives on!
Sharing with Annie today, a Friday smile is no bad thing, huh.
Have a lovely weekend.

Lovely story! I am so glad I am not the only one to do daft things. With the one hour difference between here and UK I constantly forget what day I am on - especially as I do most of my computer work around midnight...or is that 1 o'clock?! Kate x

This did make me laugh! (Btw I have an apron that says "Ooh that's naughty!" The postie always laughs at me when I open the door with it on.)

As for the blog background - why do you think mine has been white for so long? I kid myself that it's because I like the minimalistic look ;)

I am with you. We must have an ancestral monkey in common.

Turned up for a wedding on the wrong day, by a whole week. We were a bit confused when we saw the coffin going in to the church instead of the bride! And then there was the time I booked us a holiday house in North Carolina, turned up after a long drive, found the key under the mat where they said it would be and proceeded to have a wonderful week staying in completely the wrong property!

Try CTRL V to paste, CTRL C is copy too, might do the trick.

Ah yes, DIck Emery, I'm of that generation too! Along with Carry On movies, Morecombe and Wise and Cannon & Ball! Ooh and Dusty Bin, lol!

Have a great weekend, sounds like a great supper with LLJ & G, spontaneous can be really good!

Hugs
Brenda

Oh, Julia, I enjoyed that ... not the bit about cut and paste, etc., but the bit about Jan and G rolling up for the dinner that wasn't. Thanks for sharing. Elizabeth xx

Wonderful story! Thanks for sharing.
We have all done things like this. And then your computer blog story. well, I would like to change my background to be a big photo and other things. I love seeing others Blogs, that is why I love WOYWW, to get all these ideas. But I can't even get my photo up there! So at least you did something! I like the yellow with the polka dots!

Lovely card and what lovely understanding friends you have! xx

The card looks fab and that colour scheme on the blog is pretty zingy.

Had difficulty reading the post because the text was disappearing under the right-hand side (but this could be to do with the resolution on my PC)

The card is fab and the story definitely made me laugh...I have done that sort of thing myself far too often for comfort! Thanks for sharing a smile. Caro x (#7)

Well I love the look, even if I can't read the whole width of the column... yes, best laid plans and all that.... I used to love Dick Emery...love LLJ and G - true friends indeed!

Love it! Hilarious..my friend Linda once got up, got dressed and went all the way to the station, only to discover it was Saturday AM and she didn't need to be at the station at 8am at all....Happy Weekend! I love the spots on your blog..Cx

I can only see the first paragraph of your post...and the really cute card...the rest of the post is half covered by the box on the right so it seems I am missing half the hilarious bit! :( Still enjoyed my visit thouth! :)

Well it's a wake em up color scheme. Love the story as far as I could read it. The portion after the card loses itself behind the right side bar. Sounds like y'all had an enjoyable evening though.

Been there, done it. Both got the day wrong for people coming and turning up somewhere on the wrong day.
Also done something simple on the computer and then spent three hours trying to beat everything into submission, in fact only popped in for a rest from my computer problems.
See you Wednesday, if you can get Mr Linky to work on your new background.

Oh I admire your trying, I really do... I would love to freshen mine up but i have this fear that if I start messing with it, it will disappear (not an unjustified fear because it did happen once so I am not pushing my luck). My Granny used to say, "if it aint broke, don't fix it"!
LOL at your dinner guests... good job they know you eh?

Great story, I did that once with neighbors to have Christmas drinks and nibbles, why I don't know. I was midst with a broadcast and not getting much sleep they turned up and I had to bluff my way through, I think they knew to tell you the truth. I was dead on my feet thankfully they didn't stay too long... If I had the energy it would of been a great evening.

Oh and I couldn't read everything you wrote as the width of the narration needs sorting words have been cut off. If you can widen the column it will be easily fixed. LOL I say that with tongue in cheek..... easy LOL

Just be glad your computer is working. My craft machine will only produce a black screen with a note to tell me that it is updating Windows Desktop, and has been that way for at least three weeks. Unfortunately my technical dept (Doug has been away on holiday and then on different shifts. I even have a nice new shiny printer waiting to replace the one that died without warning. I quite like your background as it is. xx Maggie

I'm a few days late getting here and what do I find? Your new layout. And to make matters worse, the right side of your words (and images) don't show on my blog, no matter what I do.

That was a great story, though. Leave it to LLJan to save the day and laugh WITH you. Now that's a TRUE friend.
